Community and Events

Since our last meeting, Coolum HeARTs has continued to grow in both reach and reputation. Our Art & Music event on 17th August was a resounding success, bringing together artists, musicians, and community members in a celebration of local creativity. Similarly, Chony’s Art Exhibition at Nambour highlighted the depth of talent within our group and provided another valuable platform for showcasing our work.
Looking ahead, we are preparing for a strong calendar of activities, including:

  • Sing Out community gathering – 12th October

  • Chony’s Film Premiere – 12th October

  • Candle-Making Workshop – November

  • Christmas Twilight Markets (in collaboration with the Coolum Lions)

  • Community Christmas Lunch – now set as a two-year project to support connection and inclusion during the festive season.

Business Development and Recognition

Our website upgrade is progressing well and will soon provide an enhanced platform for showcasing our art, selling creative works, attracting sponsorship, and enabling donations. This development will expand our capacity to engage the broader community and generate new income streams.

We were also pleased to be involved in the Sunshine Coast Business Awards, reflecting growing recognition of our contribution to arts, inclusion, and wellbeing in the region.

The shed weeding issue has now been resolved with Council assistance. This opens the way for us to develop the garden space, further enhancing the Shed as a welcoming and creative hub.

Correspondence and Engagement

Incoming correspondence has been diverse and highlights the active role we play in the community. Key items include:

  • Ted O’Brien’s advice of success in Volunteer Grant funding – a welcome boost for our operations.

  • Ongoing discussions regarding DGR status and donations, which are critical to sustaining our financial health.

  • Volunteer and maintenance enquiries (including from Susanna Sykes and Jacob Cheesman), showing positive momentum in building our support base.

  • Engagement with the Coolum Lions regarding tree trimming and Twilight Markets, reinforcing the value of our local partnerships.

Outgoing correspondence has:

  • Confirmed our involvement in Chony’s fundraising project for muscular degenerative disease.

  • Formalised our agreement with Tursa Employment.

  • Welcomed new opportunities such as market sales initiatives.

Membership and Volunteers

Our membership now stands at 149 members and six agencies, with new applications continuing to come forward. A warm welcome is extended to new members awaiting approval, such as Karen Surch.

Volunteers remain at the heart of Coolum HeARTs. We are grateful for the individuals stepping forward to offer skills, time, and energy—whether in creative facilitation, maintenance, or event support. Their contributions ensure we can continue to deliver accessible, inclusive, and meaningful arts experiences for all.

Acknowledgements

I extend my sincere thanks to our hardworking Committee and to the wider community of artists, tutors, and volunteers. Each of you plays a part in making Coolum HeARTs a vibrant, resilient, and welcoming organisation.

Together, we are building not only programs and events, but also a lasting legacy of creativity and community care.
