PRESIDENT’S REPORT – MARCH 2024

I’m pleased to say that Coolum HeARTs is off to a great start to Term 2 2024.  I hope you are enjoying the Facebook posts where each committee member introduces themselves and explains their role.

Our finances have improved with the recent donation received from Coolum Lions to thank us for assisting with the Christmas Markets and Australia Day event.  Our submission to Coolum Surf Club’s Community Benefit Fund was successful and will eventuate in a substantial contribution to our coffers.   Our raffles at the Coolum Beach Hotel are proving successful particularly with the introduction of seafood trays, as well as meat trays etc.  A big thank you to our regular volunteers who turn up each Thursday to manage the sales.

The first mosaic Sip’n’Smash was a fun event with participants turning out some really special artwork, some of which was on sale at our March stall.  The stall made over $650 even though it was a relatively quiet Easter Saturday and the rain forced us to relocate to opposite the Surf Club where we had cover.  Big thanks to the volunteers and our entertainers – The Shoplifters and Heartstrings, our newly formed Ukulele group Heartstrings with Kalani at the helm.

We look forward to the return of Sing Out for Mental Health scheduled for Sunday 13 October at the Coolum Primary School auditorium, as a celebration for Mental Health Week, and also the annual Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day 25 December in the Coolum Civic Centre.  Our sub-committees have been busy with arrangements for these events and welcome your participation if you can afford the time.

We’ve purchased 10 new drums for our Djembe drummers.  The popularity of this activity is growing and the decision was taken to have the session price for members for both drumming and choir remain at $5.00 per person as we are aware the price hike caused some financial difficulties for some of our participants, particularly for those on NDIS benefits.

The Term 2 Program is out now, so please register for your activity via the website to avoid missing out.  Diane’s Women’s Hub is now on Monday afternoons and think about our new offering – Sewing and Craft on a Friday afternoon.  This session is free, just turn up and bring your own sewing machine or craft items, have a cuppa and a nice social time!  We said goodbye on 6 April to Pete from Pete Sews after more than a year of contributing his sewing skills to Coolum HeARTs, as he has moved back to Victoria.  Big thanks Pete.

I will have some great news for you in the next issue regarding a new look website provided to us on a pro bono basis by a great team of professionals.  And lastly a Date Claimer – we have set the date for the 2024 Annual General Meeting which will be held at the Coolum HeARTs Community Shed on Sunday 20 October.  More information later.

Regards,

Lindsay Boreham
